Travel sure has been made a lot easier since the advent of the Google search. Oddly – it’s also gotten a lot less unique, but way more informed. On the whole, I suppose this is a good thing, but it also means when you find the “best lighthouse self tour” for Portland, Maine and it’s the first result on Google… you’re going to meet a lot of the same people along the way at each stop. This time, though, I’ll call that a positive as the people were mostly friendly – including one fellow Packers fan! So that was fun!
I should start at the beginning, though, as we headed out for Two Lights State Park. We all woke up, grabbed some coffee, and headed out for a quick breakfast at a place called Forage. It’s a wood-fired bagel place, but also serves a variety of coffee and chai drinks as well as breakfast sandwiches with the bagel as the focal point. We all agreed they were some of the best bagels we’d ever had, and also that Eliza and I would come back the next day before takeoff to home for a second round of the same (I won’t write about the fourth day, but yes this did happen!).
After fueling up with food, off we went on what would become a lighthouse-hopping extravaganza to lighthouses small and large, unknown to famous. The most famous, I believe, was Portland Head Lighthouse. I just had to send a photo to my friend Bev – just to prove I’d actually been there! It was a generally good day, albeit a bit crowded at places, and I had a very good time.
Back in Portland by noon-ish, we grabbed thai food for lunch (good, but slow service and wow do I mean that!), and then as it was getting close to Halloween the girls decided they wanted to sit at home, relax like they hadn’t all trip (like I had the past morning), and just bask in the big television in the Airbnb and take in a movie – Hocus Pocus 2. So that’s what we did after a trip to Trader Joe’s for munchies for the evening. We took it easy, relaxed, and prepared for our individual trips home.
All in all I loved Portland. I’d love to go again and spend even more time there and if I had the money… I’d buy that Airbnb outright! What an amazing place to stay. The host was great about everything, and we really enjoyed our time there! I can’t wait to go back and maybe even stay further North East – making it to Acadia and visiting as the sun comes up. I guess we’ll see next time!
