With two flights left, and shorter ones than the way down… I could really feel that the trip was winding down. It makes me sad every time, but also happy to be headed home. This trip was one of the longest I have taken outside of six weeks in India, and I think it was just long enough. We checked in for our flight, and they informed us we would miss our connecting flights. Jen and I were headed different directions once in Dallas, and once they got the tickets sorted out I asked if there was any way I could keep an exit row seat given my height. The guy at the counter went above and beyond, and got both Jen and I exit row seats for our final flight (we already had bulkhead seating for this penultimate hop).
We sat in separate rows on the way back to Dallas (DFW), but still within kicking distance. Luckily, we both slept this time for at least part of the flight and we landed without incident… even the luggage came without a problem this time!
We went through customs and immigration control, and we were running out of time to get to our flights. We climbed on the train that rings DFW, and soon it was time to say goodbye. With our gates far from each other, we said goodbye on the train, and I watched as the doors closed behind her and our lives separated again into what would be the regular day-to-day of work and planning. My flight home was uneventful, I met an individual named Tim on the plane and we talked away the flight. We talked about my work, his work, this trip and travel in general. The entire way, I was having trouble getting one thought out of my head: It’s time to start planning our next adventure. With six continents under our belts, Australia is in our sights. There may be some side-trips before that… we always seem to both find our own adventure as time goes by as well, but we’ll finish our continental tour together sometime soon. It’s been quite a ride so far!
