Okay, so normally I don’t do a recap until the end of the trip but I’m making an exception this time. If you couldn’t tell from my posts, I absolutely LOVED Antarctica. The whole experience from the team atmosphere, the people I met on the trip, and the feeling of adventure that came with each day of the trip. I described to Anja at dinner last night that this trip felt like an adult summer camp. There were so many wonderful people both on the crew, the expedition staff, and the passengers that it filled my heart with unadulterated love. I can’t even pick which activity was my most favorite of the whole experience. If I HAD to… I would say, the whaling station or the zodiac tour of the icebergs.
I can probably say, I probably over packed a little for the trip. Although, I’m extremely glad I did. I would rather have the clothes available for me to use rather than go into Antarctica cold which would have degraded the enjoyment. To further that sentiment, I will say that we were quite blessed with incredible weather while we were there. On the days which were snowing or windy, good preparation helped me to enjoy the trips a bit more. I was surprised at how many good weather days we had down there. The submerge proof bag I had purchased for the trip seems to have been a good purchase. Even on the wettest of days, I wasn’t concerned about my stuff getting wet. The only smallest concern was any condensation in the bag itself which is easily regulated with a towel, or in my case a scarf.
If I had to pick one thing, of all of the experiences, to choose from as my favorite… it would be the people. I just love these people, all of them. Of the 105 passengers, and 70 odd crew on the ship I could walk up to every single one of them and have a wonderful conversation with them. You don’t get that everywhere, and these people will be forever in my hearts as Brad and I continue our journey back into Argentina, Peru, and back home in a week or so.
