It always feels funny to step onto a plan on a Sunday, spend twelve hours flying, and then wake up on a Tuesday wondering where Monday went, but I enjoy the experience every time! It’s 7:30 in the morning as I’m writing this and I’ve only really half-slept for the last few days. I slept on the plane coming in, but we were delayed, and when we did finally arrive at our hotel last night approaching midnight… I wasn’t really even tired in the slightest. This was officially Monday night, since we had crossed the International Date Line, and our meetings began Tuesday morning.

My airplane didn’t have sliders on the windows… it had electronic shading. This was a first!

Sleeping on the plane, however, caused a problem trying to go to bed last night, and I slept only about an hour or so all night. Today may be a rough one, but luckily we’ve had some delays in our planned meetings so my day will be shorter than anticipated and we’re not going to head in until later today. I actually need to stop blogging, and take some time for what I came here to do (my real job), but I’ve had a few experiences I wanted to share over the past few hours… so here you go!

My first trip to Japan, every sign was an opportunity for a photo!

Some things are different in Japan…

… and hitting the wrong button may have been a surprise! (I didn’t!)

And I finished off all of that with some eel for breakfast this morning, along with some dim sum. This was my second trip to the buffet counter, I started with dumplings and some bacon, etc., the normal things… but I couldn’t skip the opportunity to get some sushi for breakfast.

Sushi and Dumplings for breakfast, with a little bit of peach to wash it all down.

More to come on this trip… I’ll probably post again tonight once it feels like another day has passed (I’m technically in Day 2 now, but I didn’t want to split up the posts that way), and that will officially be my “Day 2” post. There is apparently a well-known dim sum place on the 3rd floor of my hotel that may be worth trying, and of course there are restaurants all over Tokyo as well. I think the hardest part of my days here will be the opportunity cost of picking one place over another!

Tokyo, by the way, is huge. I have so much more to tell you about it. I’m staying in Akasaka, just a few blocks from nearly every experience you can imagine in Tokyo… and I hope to find time while I am here to explore a little bit around my hotel!
