Leaving Argentina for The Amazon (Day 16 – 12/7/2016)

By December 7, 2016October 14th, 2020No Comments

Today is a day for flying, and we’re going to keep it pretty light and easy. We woke up at nine, with a checkout time of 10:00 AM, and ran around a bit to ensure we got everything packed and breakfast in before we checked out. Our driver would show up at 1:20 PM, so we didn’t have a lot to do until then and instead spent some time catching up on the blog a bit more. Jen and I have spent some good downtime on Free Range Hobo this trip, and I don’t regret it one bit. We both needed some time to acclimate, and that’s exactly what we got. Once our transfer did show up, there was some confusion and the hotel tried to put us in a cab before then apologizing and moving us to a small car that had come for us. He drove us to the airport, and the marathon that would last well into tomorrow began.

Knowing a day of flying isn't that interesting... I saved some pictures from the national park for you!

Our first flight from Ushaia to Buenos Aires wasn’t too long. It stopped along the way in a town whose name I don’t’ remember (I’ll look it up at some point), and then we headed into Buenos Aires. There, we had a nearly eight-hour layover before our next flight  on Latam Airlines (LAN) left at 3:35 in the morning on December 8th.

We arrived in Buenos Aires just in time to grab dinner, and had some of the worst “American” food we’ve ever had. I ordered what I thought was loaded French fries, and they ended up being nachos where ingredients were missing (for real this time). A selling point had been bacon, and there was no bacon. When I asked for bacon, we were brought out a nearly-inedible substance that may have been bacon before it was cooked so long I couldn’t even chew it. The cheese on the nachos was nacho cheese, and we left pretty quickly after. Our next stop was an ice cream shop or a bar, but we found that both were closing. We ended up at another restaurant we found that was 24-hours, and drank wine and water for a while. To pass time, we broke out the Uno deck again, and played until we were tired of doing so. This took us all the way to the morning of December 8th.

Officially known as the "End of the World Post Office", our guide was frustrated that I said I'd already sent one from further South.
