The North Pole

It's Time for Another Adventure

By June 18, 2018No Comments

Ever since stepping foot back in the United States from our Antarctica trip, both Jen and I have been thinking about the voyage and the experience. Off and on, we’ve had discussions about our everyday lives and what it means to us to have traveled there and how it affected us both individually. Coming back to the day-to-day after traveling aboard a ship full of explorers is hard. Knowing the world is just outside your office door is harder. It’s tantalizing.. even on the best work day… even when you love what you do. I want another adventure, and not to somewhere normal, I need to go adventuring. I used to say Antarctica “broke me” from everyday life. After some advice from a friend, I now say it broke me open. It’s a big wide world out there, grander than I ever could have imagined (though I tried!), and now it’s time for something big.

Today I changed the “Tagline” of this blog from “Around the World by 35 – A Travel Blog” to “Around the world by 35, and to its top by 40. – A Travel Blog”. I think it’s time to announce.

I’m 32 years old as I’m writing this, and traveling to the North Pole won’t be cheap… so it’s time to start saving, planning, thinking. Free Range Hobo will travel to the North Pole within the next seven years, likely with Poseidon Expeditions again though we’ll have to see how long it takes to save the money and what the climate looks like at the time (both in the industry, and the world). You never know what a few more years may bring, but I hope to be standing on the front of the Russian, nuclear ice-breaker as we head to the very top of the world while there is still ice to break.

Of course, there will still be trips in the middle (and I owe you all at least one post wrapping up India and Ireland), but I wanted to let everyone know. The next trip is decided, the goal is set. I start saving today.

In the event you want to watch the video that inspired this as a next trip… https://poseidonexpeditions.com/northpole
