Today I leave for Las Vegas, a trip that wasn’t part of the original plan when Jen and I discussed Australia. (Yes, I absolutely owe you guys some updates on this as well!) My work has a conference each year for our customers, and this year I was asked both to speak and to represent our business unit… so I’m at the airport about to fly out. I spent last night in a frenzy after preparations for the conference took much longer than anticipated. I needed to pack!

This time having two trips in one, I’m trading thermals and waterproof pants for dress slacks and a sports coat, however. (Feel free to read about our Antarctic Adventure, followed by a stop in Argentina for a week in the amazon if you’re not already familiar!) I’m not headed to an inhospitable climate, actually much the opposite. Without air conditioning one might consider Las Vegas inhospitable… but for the most part that won’t be the case while I’m there, and speaking to our customers should be a very rewarding experience as long as I can find the time to prepare properly. I couldn’t be more excited! Packing, however, was once again a challenge. This time, given that some of the trip is in the US, I have the luxury of packing two separate suitcases, however, and this ended up being the best way to accomplish both trips!

I fly into Las Vegas today, staying at the MGM Grand, and immediately will be involved in conference activities. I don’t entirely know what to expect, but when I went in 2015 when the conference was in San Francisco all I remember was 20-hour days of work and engagements… I think this will be much the same. I’ll try to fit some gambling in there somewhere… I just realized yesterday that my corporate card has expired so I’m working around that as best I can to not impact my Australia budget, so probably very little gambling overall.

Speaking of Australia… the conference wraps up Thursday and into Thursday evening, and while most will be enjoying the company party for our customers, I’ll be boarding a plane for San Francisco. I’ll meet Jen there, do some laundry early Friday if I’m able, and then re-pack for Australia. Once again I’m three weeks away from home. I hadn’t allowed myself to get excited until I started packing, and then much like always I couldn’t stop smiling. I’m about to achieve a life goal I’ve waited years for… and I have big hopes for so many other great things while we’re on our seventh continent!

Look for more updates, they’re coming soon!
